CHOICE Humanitarian
International Partnership in Peru
I’ve never heard of a high school being engaged in international problems at this level. It’s extraordinary and exciting.
Leah Barker, former CEO of CHOICE Humanitarian
CHOICE Humanitarian began in 1982 with a mission to eliminate extreme poverty around the world. In the decades since, its Model of Leadership Development has a 93% longevity success rate empowering local leadership in rural communities to develop and realize their own vision out of poverty. CHOICE Humanitarian currently has teams in Ecuador, Bolivia, Guatemala, Peru, Mexico, Kenya, and Nepal that work side-by-side with local leadership in a coordinated effort to eradicate poverty in their communities.
International collaboration is a cornerstone of AAI's mission and vision. Our long-term partnership with CHOICE Humanitarian Peru provides students with unique international experiences by integrating student work with the work of in-country leadership teams. All year long, AAI students work directly with CHOICE Peru employees, volunteers, and directors to develop, coordinate, and execute practical initiatives developed by local village leadership councils to solve the most pressing in-country problems.
This partnership does more than expose students to international experiences — it affects how students see themselves and the world around them. In working with Peruvians to fight the extreme poverty in their communities, AAI students learn gratitude, gain perspective, and build confidence knowing they're truly making a difference in the world.
